My Great Grandfather Seamus Faherty Island home

Crump Island My great-grand-parents home in the late 1800’s into early 1900’s was Oileán Dá Chruinne, one of the three Crump Islands. St Rioch had a small oratory here on the largest of the three islands forming the Crump group. St Rioch is said to be buried on the adjoining shore while 40 of his companions are said to lie in the graves by the oratory. Crump Island is renowned for its historical significance, in particular as an early Christian site. Situated in the southern mouth of Killary Harbour Oilean Da Chruinne contains the remains of a simple, early Christian Oratory, on the island’s south side, which Ríoch is said to have built. To the immediate east of the church is a small cemetery containing several very ancient headstones, traditionally held to be the graves of forty strangers who accompanied Ríoch from overseas.
